  • What is a Refugee?

There are more refugees in the world than ever before. About 26 million people have fled their countries because of conflict, violence, persecution, or human rights violations. That’s about the same number of people who live in Shanghai, China, the world’s third-largest megacity. More

Question: The ladies in our community have a Quraan Khatam WhatsApp Group. There are 30 participants on the group. Every month each member is given a Juz (portion) to read. At the end of the month, once members have indicated that they have recited their portions, Dua is made and the rewards are sent to the Marhoomeen. Is this practice acceptable?

Answer: It will be permissible to join a Quraan Khatam WhatsApp Group if one feels that by being part of the group it will serve as an encouragement to recite the Noble Quraan.

It should be kept in mind that it was not a common practice during the time of the Sahaba Radiyallahu Anhum for individuals to select Ajzaa (portions) and collectively make a Khatam of the Noble Quraan. Hence, this should not be considered as a Sunnah practice.

Be that as it may, it will be more virtuous and rewarding for a person to read his/her own Khatam of the Quraan instead of being part of a group.

It should also be noted that it is not permissible for Non Mahram males and females to be together on a Quraan Khatam group.

A shoe seller meets a mathematician and complains that he does not know what size shoes to buy. "No problem," says the mathematician, "there is a simple equation for that," and he shows him the Gaussian Normal Distribution (bell-shaped curve). The shoe-seller stares some time at the equation and asks, "What is that symbol?" "That is the Greek letter pi." "What is pi?" "That is the ratio between the circumference and the diameter of a circle." Upon this the shoe-seller cries out: "What does a circle have to do with shoes?!"
